Odor is a common problem and difficult to deal with, especially when it involves large quantities of books, papers, documents or textiles. Most odors are a result of an item off-gassing into the atmosphere. Major causes can be proximity to a fire or mold, and improper storage
The Problem
Our client, while in Africa, purchased a 100 year old garment called a Batakai. The Batakai is worn by a warrior for protection while in battle. He projects a beacon of visual ferocity sprouting projectiles and strips of hide saturated with smokey colors. Even though stained with sweat and caked with soil it is never washed. Upon returning home our client showed his wife the treasure he had found. The Batakai had a less than desirable odor. The line was drawn, he or the shirt had to go.
